The first teaser for the Netflix documentary McGregor Forever, on Conor McGregor, has arrived, and it isn’t afraid to show the fighter’s injuries.
The new show chronicles the Irish professional mixed martial artist’s recuperation and return to the arena following a horrific leg break in 2021.
At UFC 264, the Dubliner’s ankle shattered during his trilogy battle against Dustin Poirier, with UFC president Dana White subsequently revealing the injury was to McGregor’s lower tibia.
Conor, 34, recalls on the terrifying accident while receiving treatment in the one-minute teaser, with the crunch of his ankle breaking audible.
Conor, who is hooked up to machines in a hospital bed, is questioned by the show’s producers if the event was a ‘career-ender.’
Agreeing, Conor replies: ‘I thought it was over as well. I thought it was over as well.’
The fighter continues: ‘Part of me was thinking, “Jesus imagine if it was just taken from me like that.” I would just go into a different mode. I would be a different person.
‘I was a bit scared to be honest with you. But it’s McGregor Forever. That’s it isn’t it?’
Conor adds with a glint in his eye: ‘And don’t you forget it.’
Conor will also appear in the remake of Road House, in which Jake Gyllenhall will portray an ex-UFC fighter who works as a bouncer at a wild Florida Keys nightclub.
The Spider-Man actor will take on the legendary character of John Dalton, first played by Patrick Swayze in the 1989 movie.
McGregor Forever launches on Netflix on May 17.
