Claudia Winkleman, the host of The Traitors, admitted to using gravy as a fake tan on an episode of the popular BBC competition.
During an appearance on the comedy panel programme Would I Lie To You last week, the 52-year-old presenter admitted that she had used the condiment to boost her tan.
Winkleman, known for her trademark fringe and stunningly unconventional dress style, was on team leader David Mitchell’s squad alongside comic Babatunde Aléshé. The opposing team, led by Lee Mack and comedians Mike Bubbins and Jessica Knappett, questioned her absurd allegation.
Winkleman began the week’s lie-filled festivities by alleging that she previously used gravy granules as fake tan on an episode of The Traitors.
But was this the truth or a lie?
‘I didn’t have it because I was in the castle,’ Winkleman said, referring to the remote Andross Castle in Scotland, where the competition is filmed.
According to Winkleman, a member of the crew then went to a neighbouring shop, leaving teammates stunned that the purportedly remote castle has a neighbourhood shop.
When pressed on the brand of the gravy, Winkleman said: ‘I don’t think I’m allowed to say a brand but, yeah, granules.’
While she didn’t indicate whether this happened during the show’s first or second season, she did mention it happened around episode five, after having a spray tan for the previous four.
‘Round table, in you go…’ she told host Rob Brydon. ‘You’re wearing tweed, what do you need? Correct, granules.’
While her statements about stores and gravy granules had Lee Mack certain she was lying, the presenter revealed that she had, in the end, been speaking the truth.
Winkleman, a known fake tan aficionado, has previously acknowledged to utilising unusual means to keep tanned.
Appearing on a TikTik with SheerLuxe in January, the star revealed that she ‘will use anything’ to achieve her signature look.
‘I have used Bisto granules. I have used old tea bags,’ she added.
These findings follow the UK reality competition’s second series, in which 22-year-old army engineer Harry Clark lied and snuck his way to victory, winning a staggering £95,150.
