As the last season of ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway approaches, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have revealed a first for the show since its inception 22 years ago.
I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here! The hosts have headed the variety programme since 2002, but last year declared that the next 20th season will be their ‘final one for a little while’.
They explained at the time that the programme ‘takes up such a lot of our year’ and that they needed a ‘little bit of a breather’, therefore the show was going to take a’rest’.
Ahead of the last episodes, the pair have stated that they would not only bring back some old show favourites, but also introduce a new one-off section.
Some of the show’s most popular portions are An Audience Member’s Game, Read My Lips, Undercover, Win the Ads, and The Takeaway Truck.
This time around, Get Out of My Ear will also return, with Lorraine Kelly among the prominent figures who have agreed to take the hot seat.
Speaking of what played out, Dec joked in a recent Q & A: ‘I thought we got stopped a lot when we were out shopping but my goodness, everybody wants to stop and talk to Lorraine Kelly!’
Ant then teased that the segment was ‘very funny’ and she was ‘game for a laugh’ and has a ‘wicked sense of humour’.
‘The viewers will enjoy it, Lorraine’s naughty side comes out,’ he said.
The duo’s first show, Revenge Get Out of Me Ear, will turn the tables.
During this part, Ant and Dec will wear earpieces as celebrities instruct them what to say and do, with the celebs being individuals they’ve previously pranked.
They’ll also have no idea who the celebs are, because the production team is in charge.
‘Normally when you’re trying to get celebrities for things like this it’s hard to pin them down because of busy diaries but we’ve been told that everyone who they asked immediately said yes and made themselves available,’ Ant said, as reported by the Radio Times.
‘We’re very nervous about this.’
The episode will also conclude with a full circle scene, with Undercover’s first subject, Simon Cowell, getting pranked again.
‘We are ending the Undercovers where we started… with Simon Cowell! Our first ever Undercover was on Simon in LA when he was a judge on American Idol,’ Dec explained.
‘So, we’ve gone back and got Simon Cowell again. We went out to LA and gave him the day from hell whilst he was judging on America’s Got Talent.’
Ant added: ‘It was even sweeter getting him the second time round because we also got him during his downtime as he’s riding his bike around Malibu, it’s very, very funny.’
The series previously took a pause in 2009, returning four years later in 2013.
Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway returns on Saturday February 24 at 7pm on ITV1.
