James Argent, a celebrity SAS soldier, described the physical and mental toll shooting the programme took on him.
This year’s lineup has piqued the interest of many due to the presence of former Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who has previously suffered a tough questioning in which he was forced to concede ‘poor leadership’ during the epidemic.
Other celebrities hoping to impress chief teacher Billy Billingham MBE QCB include musician Gareth Gates, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton, Love Island‘s Montana Brown, and former footballer Jermaine Pennant.
The former Towie star, 35, was one of the stars pushed to their breaking point and left the show after reaching it.
Arg’s recent Instagram post included a slew of action shots as well as a video of his gruesome injuries.
He penned: ‘And so my SAS Who Dares Wins journey ends…
‘I left the camp a very broken man but I was content with knowing I went as far physically and mentally as I possibly could & I gave it 110%.
‘Jungle Rot, Trench foot, Swamp eye, You name it I got it lol. I have battle scars that will last a lifetime inside and out but it’s made me a stronger person.
‘I have learnt things about myself that I didn’t know before and will continue to make progress.’
Having struggled with addiction, Arg hoped his heart and determination would be his most significant assets on the show, saying: ‘I wasn’t doing it for the money. I was literally doing it because I really wanted to push myself and really achieve something and have another goal.’
In 2021, he shed seven stone after having a gastric sleeve inserted after doctors told him he needed to lose weight.
He had been cautioned to ‘lose weight or die’ after reaching 27 stone, and had initially planned to shed 10 stone, with a goal of 15 as part of a health and fitness makeover following a near-fatal overdose on Christmas Day in 2019.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs on Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
