Call The Midwife fans have missed Nurse Trixie (Helen George) in recent weeks after she left Poplar for a short break – but will the much-loved cast member return?
Call The Midwife’s Nurse Trixie had an exciting start to series 11 as she grew closer to new love interest Matthew (Olly Rix).
The pair initially bonded whilst Matthew was dealt with the reality of bringing up his young child by himself after the death of his wife.
But after starting off as a friendship, the pair realised their attraction to each other as they began to spend more time alone.
They then took their relationship to the next stage, but things ground to a halt shortly after.
The nurse was needed to help out in Italy after her godmother was taken ill, which put their relationship temporarily on hold.
Trixie’s relative had no other family to take care of her, so it was left to the nurse to step up and help.
Whilst Matthew was desperate for her to stay and give some indication of when she could be back, she could not say.
However, this was really devised as an exit storyline for Helen amid her second pregnancy – but when will she be returning to the series?
Has Helen George left Call The Midwife?
Helen has starred in the series since it began and has been a much-loved member of the cast.
However, she left Nonnatus House earlier this season to attend to her godmother and wasn’t sure how long she would be gone.
The actress gave birth to her second daughter, Lark, back in November, shortly after wrapping filming for season 11.
Helen is married to former cast member Jack Ashton, with who she also shares first daughter Wren, and is taking time out to enjoy time her newborn.
It’s not yet known when Helen will be back on set to join the rest of the cast at Nonnatus House.
But the series has been renewed for seasons 12 and 13, meaning it will air until at least 2024.
So although Helen might not return to filming just yet, it’s pretty much certain she’ll be back sometime in the next series, if not the one after.
Helen previously told Metro.co.uk and other press what would be to come for her relationship with Matthew, and we can’t wait to see it blossom.
She said in November: ‘There’s so much the way the nature of the relationship with his wife as well, it’s such a sort of deeply emotional situation, that it’s not just, “are they going to get together.”
‘They know, there are so many obstacles to overcome.
’It’s such a tricky… it’s a friendship really, and a support mechanism for it becomes for both before it becomes anything romantic. And I think it takes a long time for him to I think it’s one of those things everyone else possibly sees around them before they see themselves.’
