Regé-Jean Page has admitted that he and co-star Phoebe Dynevor did not go to the Colgate before their Bridgerton scenes.
In Netflix’s blockbuster bawdy period drama, the 34-year-old, who is the world’s most gorgeous guy (according to science), portrayed the Duke of Hastings, while the Bank of Dave actor played the Duchess.
The Shonda Rhimes series is known for making its fans sweat due to its intense entanglement, and the new season 3 promises to raise the heat up a level.
Reflecting on his breakthrough performance, the Gray Man actor went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, when he revealed his, um, relaxed, preparation for the sex scenes.
Jumping straight in, the Waterloo Road star admitted: ‘Phoebe and I had horrendous coffee breath the whole way through.
‘We made a pact early on. It’s one of the things that you do [as an actor], you approach other actors and say, “Hey, the scene is after lunch. What are our rules? Are we no onions? Are we no garlic? Do we have to get the coffee in early?”
‘And then we both were like, “Actually, I really like coffee, so I don’t mind that on you.” Thank God! So we had a coffee safe space the whole way through that show.’
(Un)lucky for some?
When Regé chose not to return for season two of the show, fans were distraught, especially Kim Kardashian, who was stunned and outraged by the news.
Yet the Roots actor left for a very basic, if unglamorous, reason.
‘I signed up to do a job and I did the job and then I did some other jobs. That’s it. That’s the story,’ he told Vanity Fair.
‘I wish it was more glamorous than that,’ he added.
Since leaving Bridgerton, Regé has been heavily speculated to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond, alongside Happy Valley’s James Norton and Tom Hardy.
But, in another setback for his adoring fans, the actor acknowledged that the iconic spy has not ‘filled his mind’.
He continued: ‘It’s a conversation people are having, and it’s terribly flattering that they’re having it. I leave them to it.’
Asked if he’d accept the part if it was given, he said he had ‘no idea’ to Vanity Fair.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights on ABC at 11:35pm/10:35c.
