The next season of Bridgerton may see the end of a significant character, which may result in painful situations.
We feel like we’ve become rather close to the ladies and boys living and prospering in the Regency age after two seasons of the main programme and the spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, so we’ll be sad to see any of the characters irrevocably say goodbye.
The next Netflix series will centre on the love tale of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, who will be played by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, respectively.
Colin and Penelope are the epitome of a slow burn in the novel, with their love affair taking 10 years to fully develop. Although the programme does not precisely mirror the Julia Quinn books on which it is based, many elements are retained.
‘But who will perish?’ We hear we yell – well, we’re getting there.
Bridgerton‘s second season was set in 1814, thus we may end up as far forward as 1824.
Queen Charlotte, based on the genuine queen, died in 1818, so you can see where we’re going with this. King George died two years later, at the age of 81, thus the characters represented by Corey Mylchreest and James Fleet may have been affected as well. India Amarteifio plays young Charlotte, and Golda Rosheuvel depicts the monarch in her latter years.
When it comes to Charlotte, who does not appear in the Bridgerton literature, the show’s authors use creative licence.
‘Although Queen Charlotte is a real historical figure, this is not a history lesson.
‘It is very important that people understand that, because I’m telling the story of Queen Charlotte of Bridgerton, not of Queen Charlotte of England,’ Shonda Rhimes, the writer of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, told The Express.
Charlotte and George’s passionate connection, as well as their children’s efforts to create an heir, were all shown in the series and were all accurate. While some details, such as arranging their children’s weddings, were inaccurate, we’ll have to wait and see what Netflix decides about their future fortunes.
A specific release date for Bridgerton season three has not yet been revealed, although the show is scheduled to return this year.
Bridgerton seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
