Brett Goldstein, the star of Ted Lasso, stated that filmmakers often cast him in ‘terrorist’ parts based on his headshots.
Because to his beloved yet foul-mouthed character Roy Kent, the 42-year-old comic is presently one of the prominent stars from Apple TV Plus’ delightful humour.
However, the Shrinking actor spoke up about his early troubles in chasing opportunities.
‘All I would ever get audition offers for was terrorists,’ he explained.
‘I guess they see my headshot and go, “Well, he looks like a terrorist!’” he added to Variety.
Brett’s involvement as a writer on Ted Lasso, which also stars Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, led to his casting in the show owing to his fondness for the character.
His work was later praised at the Emmys in 2021 and 2022, when he won the award for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series two years in a row.
While the show has gained critical praise, Eurovision 2023 presenter Hannah, who portrays Rebecca Welton, recently offered her thoughts as to why UK fans may be less enthusiastic about the blockbuster show.
‘I wonder sometimes if British audiences don’t watch it because they think it’s about football,’ she said while on This Morning.
‘But it’s actually about very much the human condition that we find through comedy, all the ridiculous things about ourselves, with the backdrop of football.
‘A brilliant backdrop of football, but its about all of us supporting each other.’
She elsewhere added that she totally underestimated the show, saying: ‘I actually said to Jason Sudeikis, I hope he’s not offended, but myself and Brett Goldstein who is also one of the writers, we stood behind the snack truck at the end of season one, and we were both like, “I don’t think he knows what it is”.’
Ted Lasso is available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
