The ensemble of ITV’s crime drama Vera has lost another another member.
Kenny Doughty confirmed earlier this month that he will be departing the programme after eight years, having previously joined as DS Aiden Healy in the fifth season in 2015.
In a statement, he paid homage to the lead star Brenda Blethyn, who plays the titular character DCI Vera Stanhope, saying: ‘I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter & have been a rock for me over the years. I can’t thank you enough. Precious times.’
It has now been revealed that another actor, Ibinabo Jack, has left the show.
Ibinabo reprised her role as DC Jacqueline ‘Jac’ Williams, which she has played since the start of season eight in 2018.
Brenda said it was a ‘huge pleasure’ to work with both Kenny and Ibinabo, and she’s looking forward to working with actor and director David Leon again as DS Joe Ashworth.
‘They’ve both been terrific members of the Vera team, and I’ll miss them. I’m absolutely over the moon to welcome David back to the show and can’t wait to get started,’ she said.
It was revealed that Ibinabo will be departing the show owing to theatre obligations.
Both she and Kenny will make their farewell appearances on Vera in a feature-length episode titled The Rising Tide, based after author Ann Cleeves’ 11th Vera novel, which will premiere later this year.
When Kenny revealed he would be leaving the drama, he said in a statement: ‘After 8 years & 35 Vera films I’ve made the difficult decision of handing over DS Healy’s badge. I can confirm I am leaving Vera.
‘I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn. The perfect leading star who I owe so much to.’
He also thanked the fans, saying, “And finally, the Vera fans: without you and your support, I would never have made so many films.” You truly are the finest fans on the planet. Thank you so much for your devotion to the show. X.’
Vera is available to watch on ITVX.
