Anna Sorokin, who you might know better as Anna Delvey if you’re bingeing Inventing Anna, has watched her life unfold in the Netflix drama and unsurprisingly has thoughts.
Inventing Anna is already number one on Netflix UK, following the extraordinary case of a fake German heiress who managed to con hotels, friends and the wealthy elite into swindling hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund her millionaire lifestyle.
Anna, 31, was jailed in 2017 for her financial crimes but released after four years in February 2021. However she was then rearrested on March 25 and is currently still incarcerated for being an immigrant and overstaying her visa in the United States.
It’s likely she will stay at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office (ICE) unit she is deported back to Germany.
As her eye-opening case find a new spotlight thanks to the release of the 10-part drama, she has seen the series after selling her life rights to the show creators for $320,000 (£236,000).
Anna watched the show with Cosmopolitan journalist Emily Palmer, who in a piece on the magazine’s website writes that before watching Inventing Anna and looking at the trailer alone, Anna asked: ‘Am I that insufferable?’
Apparently she then laughed: ‘I don’t feel like I could ever be friends with myself.’
After watching the pilot episode, she then told the reporter ‘this will override reality’ and said it was ‘weird to watch your own life owned by somebody else’.
Emily later revealed on Instagram she received a drawing from Anna, a ‘commentary on our immigration system’.
Anna has also shared the image on her own Instagram, which depicts her alone on a block of ice with a glacier behind featuring DHS inscribed on the side.
She named the sketch: ‘Anna on ICE.’
As for what’s next, Anna is currently writing her memoir from prison.
‘That’s the only good thing I’ve been able to achieve while I’m in here — I definitely have a lot of time to write. I’m in talks with different publishers,’ she told MailOnline.
Inventing Anna is available to stream on Netflix.
