An investigation of Andrew Tate’s effect on the younger generation is now in the works and will run on BBC Three.
Tate, a former kickboxer who rose to stardom after appearing on Big Brother in 2016, earned attention online last year for comments he made regarding women.
For violating terms of service, especially hate speech regulations, the online personality was banned from a significant number of social media networks, including TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
Videos of and about Tate have gone popular in recent months on YouTube and TikTok, where a hashtag with Tate’s name on it has garnered over 13 billion views, prompting activists to demand for further action to be done to stem the spread of what they term hazardous content.
Online safety and anti-hate campaign groups warned of the dangers of Tate’s online commentary for some time, noting that videos of him were frequently widely re-shared by his followers and supporters, and urged social media platforms to go beyond simply banning personal or linked accounts he was known to use.
The documentary, titled Andrew Tate: The Man Who Groomed the World?, will premiere tonight on BBC Three and BBC Current Affairs.
It is also set to expose those helping to craft him into a global figurehead, exploring the ideologies and end goal of Tate and his circle, and revealing how his global network has left potentially hundreds of victims in its wake.’
Head of Content at BBC Three Nasfim Haque said: ‘Viewers loved Tahsin and Shea’s illuminating first documentary about Andrew Tate, this film continues their brilliant investigative work and reveals even more about how Tate and his organisation operate their global network.’
Tate had long been accused of sexism, having been removed from the Big Brother house six years ago over a video that appeared to show him assaulting a woman.
He previously branded the clip a ‘total lie’, claiming that it was ‘trying to make me look bad’.
Andrew Tate: The Man Who Groomed the World will premiere on BBC Three soon.
