When he was the target of an assault, Amir Khan recalled the terrifying moment he felt a gun on the side of his head.
Two men were convicted last month of robbing the fighter to take his £70,000 watch in an episode that occurred last year.
Dante Campbell, 20, and Ahmed Bana, 25, pleaded guilty to plot to steal and possession of an imitation firearm on April 18, 2022, after targeting Khan.
In a recent interview, the athlete expressed concern that his children would grow up ‘without their father,’ saying, ‘In that time, you imagine the worst.’
On Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, the 36-year-old discussed his experience with co-hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway, which occurred when he and his wife Faryal Makhdoom, 31, exited the Sahara Grill eatery in Leyton, east London.
‘Your life just goes right past you. At first I didn’t know what they wanted. When they ran to me, I remember someone pushing me to a car, and put a gun straight to my face,’ he said.
Khan recalled being in “shock” at the moment and “looking away” from the assailant’s firearm.
‘It’s only when he said, “Take off your watch,” that’s when I realised that he’s come for the watch. I remember him having the gun on the side of my head, I could feel it,’ he stated.
Makhdoom, Khan’s wife, fled back into the centre of the road, which he described as “probably the best thing that ever happened,” adding that if she had been with him, a gun could have been discharged in fear.
Khan told The Sun that he leaned his head to the right “because I thought, if he’s going to shoot me, he can shoot the side of my head.” I don’t want to see the projectile come at me’.
He added: ‘It was the first time I’ve ever seen a gun in my life. I could see down the barrel.’
When people suggested he should have used his fighting abilities to fight back, he replied, ‘Are they stupid? I have a household. It’s just a timepiece. ‘I value my existence more.’
Khan and Makhdoom have been married for ten years and have two children.
