Ant McPartlin fell during the first live semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent 2023, and the incident reminded us of some other epic falls.
The incident occurred when Ant, 47, attempted to join in on a special performance by Diversity, the show’s 2009 winner.
He seemed to have gotten a bit too enthusiastic and ended up flat on his buttocks. The camera shifted to a wide angle just as the slide occurred, but it was evident he landed hard on the stage.
Fortunately, the Geordie star took it in stride and laughed it off, saying, ‘I just wet myself and farted at the same time!’
He isn’t the only one who has become surprisingly familiar with the floor. Here is our list of the top television falls for your viewing enjoyment…
10. Jennifer Lawrence’s slow slump
J-Law has always been a relatable Queen, and at the Oscars, she was all of us.
She had just been named Best Actress for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook – this was her big moment – but the overwhelming acclaim all became a little too much for her and ended in mild disaster.
The 32-year-old was dressed in a Christian Dior bridal gown and made her way up a flight of stairs, but by the third step, she was a ball of pricey couture on the ground. It was more of a gentle droop than a fall.
When Jennifer arrived at the platform, her Hollywood peers gave her a standing ovation, to which she promptly responded, ‘You people are simply standing up because you feel awful that I fell, and that’s extremely humiliating.’
She did it again a year later, but this time on the red carpet. It’s understandable that she chose flip-flops over heels at the Cannes Film Festival.
9. Anne-Marie loses her left ankle
During last year’s Brit awards, Anne-Marie was seductively walking down the stairs while singing the first verse of Kiss My (Uh Oh) – just like us in All Bar One on a Friday night.
She was originally helped by a male dancer, but after he left go, she was in control of her own destiny and ended up on the floor. The 32-year-old soon stood up and resumed singing. What a champion!
She later joked: ‘Didn’t need my left ankle anyway.’
8. Catchphrase becomes Crutchphrase
After a voiceover introduced Nick Weir on Catch, he began rushing down the stairs before collapsing (stairs have a lot to answer for!).
This happened during one of his first episodes after taking over for Roy Walker, thus it wasn’t the ideal way to begin this new chapter in his career. He did go on to present for two years, so maybe breaking a leg does help. Actually, he had broken his foot.
The host did what any Catch-22 host would do: he utilised it as an opportunity to execute a wordplay. Throughout the programme, he affectionately referred to the show as Crutch.
7. Alison Hammond’s weather assistant takes a dunk
If aliens arrived on Earth and it was our responsibility to teach them about British culture, we’d have to show them this clip, as well as You Won Jane from Come Dine with Me.
This Morning decided it would be a great idea in 2018 to have Alison, 48, deliver the weather on a floating map at Royal Albert Dock, and we’ll be eternally thankful to them for that.
Everything was going swimmingly until Alison had to jump from Scotland to Northern Ireland – she tried to use one of the two weather helpers to firm her landing, but the power of Alison’s shove was too much for him, and he landed in the River Mersey.
‘Oh my gosh, are you alright?’ she said as the sailor paddled around the ocean. She apologised profusely and hugged him tightly. We’d jump into chilly water if it meant a lovely embrace with Alison later.
6. Rachel Adedeji gets carpet burn
Rachel not only offered the X Factor voiceover artist the finest surname ever to work with, but she also gave us a scene straight out of You’ve Been Framed.
When Dannii Minogue announced that she would be coaching the girls, the entire category sprinted like Usain Bolt towards their new musical leader.
Rachel, 31, didn’t quite make it and instead slid over the carpet, resulting in horrific carpet burns. Stacey Solomon was one of the few people who made it without stacking it, which feels so 2009.
5. John Barrowman learns the hard way
Loose Women were airing a programme in which they challenged males to walk in women’s shoes for a day, and John, 56, stepped up to the plate by modelling a pair of red heels. However, as he attempted to set his shoes on the desk to demonstrate his footwear to the audience, he fell backwards and out of his chair.
The broadcast cut back to the This Morning studio, where Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were battling to keep their laughter in check.
4. Skating on thin ice
In the 2019 season of Dancing on Ice, Gemma Collins demonstrated how tough it is to perfect the discipline of figure skating by taking on frozen water.
Gemma’s skate to Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now has approximately one million views and is the most viewed video on the ITV show. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that hundreds of people pressed play to witness her balletic arms as exquisite as they were. It’s only for a split second, at the 50-second mark, when Gemma, 42, legs it across the ice and suddenly collapses forward.
The former Only Way Is Essex actress raises herself up, with a little help from partner Matt Evers, and smiles and waves to the audience. The routine may have only received 16.5 out of 40 points, but it has gone down in television history.
3. Molly-Mae falls head over heels
Molly-Mae Hague didn’t only fall for Tommy Fury in the Love Island villa; she also fell for…
The stairs are causing mayhem once more, since they were the reason for a celebrity stacking it. Molly-Mae’s ankles appeared to become temporarily detached from her torso as she walked to the ground. Fortunately, her knight in shining armour and future father of her kid arrived to pick her up and check on her.
Maura Higgins was also on hand to deliver another of her trademark one-liners. ‘I can’t believe you squandered that wine,’ she scolded Molly-Mae after she was sure she was well.
2. Madonna’s cape does her dirty
Madonna, 64, was closing the 2015 Brits in a much-anticipated performance, but just mere seconds in and it all went wrong. They say not to work with children, or animals but someone needs to add capes to the list!
The backing dancers pulled Madonna’s Armani cape away before she’d had a chance to untie it meaning that she went with it to the ground. Madonna showed just how she became one of the world’s most successful popstars when she carried on with the performance like a pro.
1. Gemma goes through a hole
Gemma is the only individual to appear on our list twice, and her catastrophic fall has vaulted her to the top.
The GC did a happy whirl after announcing Love Island as the winner of Best Reality Show at the Radio 1 Teen Awards, but suddenly lost her footing and fell through a hole.
What was the purpose of the hole? Because Amber Davies, Jamie Jewitt, and Marcel Somerville of Love Island were ascending via a trap door to claim their award.
It’s only humorous now that we know everyone is fine, but it was a close call for a while. The country breathed a sigh of relief as Gemma’s mic said, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry,’ and the three of reality stars helped her back to her feet.
After the show, she told Rita Ora: ‘Do you know what, Rita? Apart from stacking it on stage, I am having the best time of my life!’ Phew.
However, after some thought, she stated that she was fortunate not to be “legless.”
‘I’m not being funny, I didn’t even get a tenner for turning up. I didn’t even know there was a hole there,’ she said. We think she deserves all the tenners.
