Adam Lambert has revealed who his first idol was, and it was a really daring pop singer.
Because of her outspokenness and brashness, the American Idol star turned Queen vocalist described Madonna as his “idol” growing up.
On The One Show on Monday (February 27), Starstruck judge Adam raved about the Vogue hitmaker after discussing High Drama, his new album of interpretations of great songs with his own touch.
His most recent hit was a glam rock rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out for a Hero, which host Alex Jones acknowledged made her ‘nervous’ since ‘only the very best individuals can tamper with Bonnie.’
To mention a few, Adam’s CD includes renditions of West Coast by Lana Del Rey, Chandelier by Sia, and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me by Culture Club.
Therefore, after putting his own spin on well-known songs, the strong vocalist revealed who he looks up to in the music industry.
‘Who was your first hero?’, presenter Ronan Keating asked the American star.
‘My first hero… Madonna,’ the 41-year-old replied.
‘I thought she was the coolest. I just loved how bold she was.
‘She wasn’t afraid of ruffling people’s feathers and I think she’s definitely a hero.’
Adam has a soft spot for several musicians, including Madonna.
In 2011, he joined the rock band Queen, playing with Sir Brian May and Roger Taylor, and has been travelling the world ever since, screaming out iconic Queen songs from We Are the Champions to Bohemian Rhapsody.
Adam has recently stated that his life “wouldn’t be the same” if Sir Brian and Roger had not approached him with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Adam didn’t hesitate when asked by fellow guest Tom Daly who he would send a letter of thanks to (a feature on the Olympic diver’s new podcast, Created With Love).
‘I would actually want to write it to both Brian May and Roger Taylor, from Queen, because without them offering me this job, over 10 years ago, I don’t think my life would be the same,’ he said.
‘I mean, I’ve gotten to travel everywhere, I’ve performed the most amazing pieces of music to amazing audiences all around the world, I’m so grateful.
‘I’m so humbled by their confidence in me, it’s been incredible.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
