Melissa Joan Hart, the actress from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, stunned fans on Instagram with an unrecognisable change.
But don’t worry, the 47-year-old’s new appearance was all in the spirit of show business, as the photo was of her in character for the forthcoming Lifetime movie Bad Guardian.
Melissa, well known for her role as Sabrina on the classic sitcom, appeared dishevelled in the photo, with ragged blonde hair and smeared eye makeup.
The Melissa & Joey star wore a plaid, blue shirt over a black tank to complete the straggled look and captioned the post with the quip: ‘Felt cute… might delete later!’
The Nine Dead actress’ makeunder jokingly alarmed some of her fans, with Karen Elizabeth writing on Instagram: ‘Why u look sooooooo CRAAAAZY CUZ????’
Enjoying Melissa’s caption, Brooke Nicholson giggled: ‘Stop it I can’t stop laughing! Time for some r&r after this movie.’
Account bean_water 19 joked: ‘POV: you’re a stay at home mama and it’s a rough week. ..It’s only Monday. .’
Dozens of Melissa’s fans also said the actress still looked great – despite the scruffy new look.
Among them was Jonathan Ruiz, who exclaimed: ‘Wow Melissa That’s Beautiful Picture I Love It Looks Amazing Great Job Melissa.’
In Bad Guardian, Melissa’s character Leigh’s father Jason (Eric Pierpoint) is placed under an exploitative conservatorship overseen by Janet (La La Anthony), and the film explores the consequences.
Commissioned during the controversy surrounding Britney Spears‘ guardianship, the film is ‘about one woman’s quest to liberate her father from the hands of a dishonest and selfish court-appointed guardian.’
Melissa’s Bad Guardian initiative isn’t the only one that has sparked internet debate.
Fans were beside themselves when they realised she had been cast as a grandmother in Would You Kill For Me? The Mary Bailey Story.
‘I feel attacked! Melissa Joan Hart is a grandmother? I’m pretty sure she’s my age,’ commented one user on TikTok, MsToy.
‘Melissa Joan Hart playing the grandma & JLo is still playing the bride in movies. I am dead,’ said user Meximelt75.
In real life, Melissa is not a grandmother but shares sons Mason, 17, Braydon, 15, and Tucker, 11, with her husband Mark Wilkerson.
Melissa played the titular character in the teen series Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which followed Sabrina as she found out she had magical powers on her 16th birthday, from 1996 until 2003.
