After the success of Cocaine Bear, it was only a matter of time until someone took the idea to new depths – and now it’s a reality.
It was just a matter of time after the popularity of Cocaine Bear until someone took the notion to new depths – and now it’s a reality.
Wide Eye Releasing, a B-movie production firm, has answered the call after many film fans jokingly recommended Cocaine Shark as the perfect spin-off to Elizabeth Banks’ crazy blockbuster, and the first teaser is totally ludicrous.
‘A mafia drug lord has unleashed a new, extremely addictive stimulant on the streets called HT25, which is created from sharks held prisoner in a secret facility and has horrible negative effects,’ according to the synopsis.
‘An army of mutant, vicious sharks and other animals are unleashed on the earth following an explosion and leak at the facility.’
In addition to Cocaine Bear, the new short is inspired by New Zealand officials announcing that 3.2 tonnes of cocaine were discovered in the Pacific Ocean.
From start to end, the caravan appears completely insane, with hilariously bad special effects like a shark with numerous arms and other bizarre looking animals poorly (brilliantly) edited in.
There’s also lots of overacting from the actors, as you’d expect, and it seems like the type of over-the-top b-movie crazy we’re used to.
‘Sometimes cinema is just beautiful,’ wrote one fan on Twitter, while others dubbed this the dawn of the ‘cocaine cinematic universe’.
‘You don’t even know how excited I am for this,’ tweeted another fan, while a third person added: ‘This trailer is delightful in its low budgetness. The stop motion monster and anime effects are icing on the cake’.
Others feel we might have a last minute contender for the Academy Awards this weekend, as someone quipped: ‘Give this thing ALL the Oscars right now’.
The proposal has piqued people’s interest, and Banks recently quipped that she was interested by the idea of filming her own Cocaine Shark film following the event in the Pacific Ocean.
‘I’ve seen that. If there’s a great story, then sure,’ she told People. ‘Jaws with cocaine? I don’t see how that loses.’
The CCU (as it’s now known) appears to be expanding shortly as well, with The Asylum, the company behind the Sharknado franchise and many other B-movie masterpieces, reportedly working on Attack of the Meth Gator.
What’s next, Never Smile at a Crackodile?
Cocaine Shark will be available on July 7 via digital and DVD.
