The Nun 2 director Michael Chaves has issued a chilling warning about the upcoming sequel, and we can’t wait for it to hit theatres.
The Nun, which was released in 2018, was a spin-off from 2016’s The Conjuring 2, the sequel to the phenomenally successful original, which was released in 2013.
Bonnie Aarons reprised her role as the evil nun terrorising a convent in 1952 in The Nun.
The film became the highest-grossing entry in The Conjuring Universe, which is the most successful horror franchise of all time.
Taissa Farmiga will reprise her role as Sister Irene in the sequel to The Nun, which is set four years after the events of its predecessor and will be released on September 8.
She has moved to Italy to live in peace in a convent, but she has no idea that Valak is hard on her track, prompting the two to clash once more.
Before the film’s premiere, director Chaves urged spectators not just to expect “frightening” horror scenes, but also to brace themselves for heightened violence.
‘I think that this does get darker. Even audiences have said this when we screened it. It is definitely more violent than what they expected from a Conjuring movie,’ he told SFX Magazine.
‘It’s always a delicate balance. It’s definitely scary, it’s 100% delivered on that.
‘Just as horror audiences have developed the appetite for horror, the appetite for violence has started to increase, and so there are some violent elements in this.’
James Wan, the creator of The Conjuring Universe, revealed more about what fans may anticipate from the film, adding that the nun’s bond with Jonas Bloquet’s character Maurice ‘Frenchie’ Theriault is significant.
‘He [Frenchie] realises that there’s only one person that can really help him, and he reaches out to Taissa Farmiga’s character,’ the acclaimed director said.
‘I love this platonic friendship that the two of them have. She cares very much for him, and she wants to do everything she can to help him. At the same time, she has to confront this evil and fight it again.’
The Nun 2 is released in UK cinemas on September 8.
