Courteney Cox has revealed details about the impending Scream 6 sequel, and she is just as scared as the rest of us.
The Friends star reprised her role as Gale Weathers in Scream VI, starring Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Hayden Panettiere.
On March 10, before of the release, the 58-year-old opened out about what to anticipate, confessing for the first time that she had no idea who was behind the Ghostface mask.
‘I have a really good scene with Ghostface and it was amazing,’ she teased. ‘I’ve obviously been stabbed many times and all that, but this time, to work with Ghostface and not know who’s under the mask, it was a really fun. Usually by the time I’m getting stabbed, I know who it is.
‘I was excited, I was scared,’ she recalled of the first time she watched the finished product. ‘Even if I know every single person and what’s going to happen and why and when, I won’t look. It’s so realistic. And I laughed! I cared.’
The latest teaser indicated that the survivors of Scream 5 had relocated to New York, with Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, and Jack Champion among the new cast members eager to dodge Ghostface’s wrath.
There are numerous unanswered issues about how the group wound up in the city, and how Gale – and Kirby (Hayden) – joined them.
Courteney stated, ‘She still lives in New York, which is amazing because now the killer’s in New York, just as Sam and Tara have relocated there,’ according to Variety. That just sort of dropped into her lap. After that, she authored a book. She told Sam she wouldn’t, but of course she did because, well, someone had to do it. So she had no choice.
‘Kirby comes – Hayden Panettiere. It’s so interesting how people came back. I have to remember. I thought she died! I get so confused. There’s been so many. I’m just so excited to be a part of something this long.’
Unfortunately, one big performer did not return to the fold, as Neve Campbell moved away from all things Scream due to a financial disagreement.
This is the first film in the series that does not include final girl Sidney Prescott.
Discussing her exit, Courteney added: ‘I missed working with her, but I’m going to support whatever she feels is right.’
Scream 5 premiered in January, introducing fans to Sam and Tara Carpenter, portrayed by Melissa and Jenna, as well as their new friends.
Of course, not all of them escaped the carnage, but twins Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) did and will appear in the sixth installment.
Melissa previously discussed the timeline of events with Entertainment Tonight, adding to the publication: ‘Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie.
‘Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world.
‘So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them.
‘We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.’
Scream VI is released in cinemas on March 10.
