Babatunde Aléshé of I’m A Celebrity said that he’s’still okay’ with Matt Hancock following the politician’s tumultuous tenure on the ITV show.
The former health secretary, 44, stirred outrage after appearing on the annual reality show last year, which returned to Australia after a two-year hiatus.
Thousands of Ofcom complaints were lodged against the show, and some of Hancock’s fellow campmates wasted no time in probing him about his time as an MP, which included him hugging and embracing staffer Gina Coladangelo in his office.
Despite the mounting tensions at the time, comedian Babatunde, 36, told This Morning on Tuesday that he had ‘wonderful discussions’ with the politician.
‘I had some great conversations with him, some real deep conversations,’ he told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
‘We spoke even more about that situation, and to be honest I can just say for me, he was very very open, very honest and we’re still cool to this day.’
Despite the outcry, Hancock placed third, beating out Boy George and Loose Women’s Charlene White.
Jill Scott, an England player, was finally elected Queen of The Jungle.
Thus far, the 44-year-old has been on Channel 4’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, where he received £45k for his participation.
Hancock received more criticism in January after it was discovered that he gave £10k from his £320k I’m A Celeb fee.
Before appearing on the show, it was announced that Hancock will donate his money to Saint Nicholas Hospice Care, a charity for which he collected over £8,000 during the 2021 London Marathon.
After his early arrival in the jungle, comedian Babatunde, 36, inquired about Hancock’s love life in the aftermath of the famed infidelity incident that led to his departure.
According to Aleshe, the politician revealed that despite the’really harsh’ repercussions of his conduct, he is still with Gina.
Hancock said: ‘I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it’s no excuse, but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences obviously.’
