Christian Bale was the definition of unrecognizable as Frankenstein’s monster in the first official pictures of The Bride.
The 50-year-old stars in the forthcoming drama starring Jessie Buckley as his wife, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard.
He also reconnected with his old Batman co-star, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for the movie, which she is directing.
She took to Instagram to reveal the first images from the set ahead of the film’s premiere next year, introducing us to Frankenstein and his bride.
In the black-and-white upload, Christian can be seen wearing the monster’s telltale scars over his forehead and torso, as well as an unusual tattoo.
He looked nothing like his normal sophisticated self, wearing a light, pin-striped blazer and caressing a full head of hair.
His bride (Jessie) seemed equally creepy as she focused on something off camera, posing with a dark substance smeared across her face in a black outfit.
Alongside the stunning images, Maggie simply penned: ‘Meet The Bride & Frank #TheBride #CameraTest #FirstLook #JessieBuckley #ChristianBale.’
The Bride is her second directorial outing, following The Lost Daughter, which she co-directed with Jessica.
Little else is known about the plot, but the official log line reads: ‘A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr Euphronius in creating a companion for himself.
‘The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born.
‘She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.’
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until October 2, 2025, to watch how The Bride unfolds.
However, this is not the only Frankenstein film in the works; Guillermo del Toro is also working on a second idea.
The Shape of Water filmmaker will adapt the classic novel for Netflix, with Saltburn star Jacob Elordi taking on the part of the legendary monster after Andrew Garfield had to step out due to schedule difficulties.
Oscar Isaac will play Dr Frankenstein, while Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, and David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz are also on the lineup.
Bring on the Battle of the Frankensteins.
The Bride is set to be released in cinemas on October 2, 2025.
