When you get a ladder in your tights, you probably think it’s time to just throw them in the bin.
But it turns out that’s actually on trend and Gucci is charging a lot of money for the style.
The fashion house is selling a pair of ‘distressed tights’, which are sold with rips – and they cost $190 (£145).
The description on the website says: ‘Stretch mesh tights in black. High-rise. Distressing throughout. Woven logo at elasticized waistband.’
Instagram account @diet_prada, which comments on fashion brands, spotted the tights and shared a picture.
The caption says: ‘To whoever paid $190 for these @gucci pre-ripped tights… r u ok? #RippedInItaly.’
One person commented: ‘Omg I have so many pairs like this. Gonna claim mine are Gucci, like thanks for making my broke ass look rich. Cool cool cool.’
Another person added: ‘Lmaooo clearly 2020 is getting to everyone and making them LOSE their minds.’
The tights are currently listed on Ssense but it seems someone must like them as they are already sold out.
One person suggested that they’d be knitted in a way to stop the hole getting bigger, but others had a tip for those wanting to create the look at home.
Fashion designer Natalia Fedner commented on the post and said: ‘Haha, to be fair they had to program the knitting machine to make it looked ‘ripped’, so I’m assuming it’s knit this way and will not run any further, etc. Similar to t-shirts that have this look.’
But others added their own advice to make tights just like this at home.
One reply said: ‘Just use clear nail polish to stop tear on your DIY version. No fancy knitting necessary.’
It’s not the only Gucci item with a ‘distressed’ look recently. The brand also sold grass-stained dungarees for £1,000 this year and last year, they produced worn-out trainers for £615.
