Another day, another Kardashian company criticised by fans – this time, Kylie Jenner’s new clothes line is under fire for being too similar.
Following the success of her beauty line, the 26-year-old businesswoman announced the debut of her clothes line, Khy, but it’s off to a rocky start when people accused her of mimicking Kanye West.
The youngest Kardashian headed to Instagram to celebrate the second drop, which features puffer jackets of varying lengths designed in conjunction with Entire Studios.
Immediately, fans noticed things, and the general mood of the company appeared to be eerily similar to that of her ex-brother-in-law.
Fans instantly saw similarities between her bright blue cropped coat and a Yeezy design produced in cooperation with Gap only last year.
‘Everybody acting like Kanye didn’t invent this whole look,’ one comment read before Kylie limited the function on her Instagram.
Another shadily wrote: ‘Ahh looks just like something Kanye would design!’
The jacket in issue was a $200 ‘Round Jacket’ with no seams, buttons, or zippers, which Kanye wore in both red and blue.
While Khy’s version, which is also available in blue, has a zip, the general seamless ’round’ design is similar to Ye’s.
Kanye was withdrawn from a number of collaborations and collections last year after being accused of anti-Semitism and going on a series of internet rants.
His clothing range was pulled from multiple stores, leading to one sarcastic commenter who said: ‘Now we know where all the Adidas/Yeezy unsold merchandise went.’
This similarity is no surprise as the collaborative designers on this ‘drop 002’ were also Ye’s ‘ghost’ consultants; Sebastian Hunt and Dylan Richards.
That’s right, Khy collaborated with the same company – Entire Studios – who are already famous for their ‘signature brightly-hued puffer jacket’.
She revealed working with the Kiwi duo on her Instagram story days before the drop, stating: ‘[They’re] one of my favourites.’
Rather than being ghost consultants, each drop on Khy is a cooperation to promote the smaller firms and display their trademark goods or design classics.
However, this isn’t the first time Khy has been accused of imitating other designs — and it was only launched two weeks ago.
The initial launch saw a black trenchcoat, among a slew of pleather designs, come under criticism for allegedly ripping off Products LTD designer Betsy Johnson.
Betsy directly called out Khy on Instagram, saying she had ’emailed Kylie and all her team @products.ltd concept and language and a line sheet 6 MONTHS AGO.’
She continued: ‘Interesting concept Kylie… interesting. Thanks for the co-sign. F**k your support.’
The first collection was stated to be created in partnership with Namilia creators Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl, as Khy hopes to collaborate with “iconic brands and global designers.”
Kylie has not responded to the allegations, while she has disabled comments on her personal social media pages – the brand’s page still allows them.
