Fans aren’t the only ones disgruntled by the fifth Avatar film’s postponement; actor Zoe Salanda is as well.
Okay, we may have recently got Avatar 2, 13 years after the original shattered boundaries when it was released in 2009, but director James Cameron has long stated his intention to have five in all.
But, given how long it took to develop The Way Of Water, it was almost inevitable that the original plan for the scheduling of the remaining sequels would be scrapped.
Disney revealed this week that the third installment of the Avatar franchise will be delayed by a year, and Avatar 5 will not be released until 2031.
Zoe, who portrays Neytiri in the aesthetically stunning flicks, has now responded to the news by mourning how old she will be when the last film is shot.
Taking to Instagram as the news was announced, she wrote sarcastically: ‘Great! I’m gonna be 53 when the last Avatar comes out.’
To put this into perspective, the 44-year-old added: ‘I was 27 when I shot the very first Avatar.’
This week, it was announced that the last Avatar will be published 22 years after the first, on December 19, 2031.
‘Each Avatar film is an exciting but huge effort that takes time to get to the quality level we as filmmakers aspire for and moviegoers have grown to expect,’ said Avatar producer Jon Landau on Twitter.
‘The crew is hard at work, and we can’t wait to welcome back audiences to Pandora in December 2025.’
The cause for the delays has not been verified by Disney.
However, according to Variety, the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike in the US has played a part in the push backs, as have production delays.
