Saira Khan has urged women over the age of 50 to feel comfortable wearing bikinis and other revealing clothing. with a resounding “yes.”
In introducing the ‘discussion,’ the former Loose Women actress stated that her reaction was a ‘big yes,’ beside an inspiring photo of herself.
Saira, 53, posed for a mirror selfie in her own bikini, wearing a white string bikini made of 50% recycled cloth with a printed orange leaf design.
The original Apprentice runner-up completed her appearance with a pink Apple watch, beaded bracelets, and many chains around her neck – and a smile.
‘Should a woman over 50 wear a bikini? – I saw this being debated in the press a few days ago and my answer is a huge YES YOU CAN!’ she began in her caption.
The mum-of-two continued: ‘Go for it ladies – you’ve only got one life. Stop listening to these stupid debates and stop worrying about your age and what others think. Do you.
‘This is me unfiltered, confident, real and this is the motto I live my life by.’
She signed off underneath with the hashtags ‘#bikini’ and ‘#over50’.
Saira, who is currently on a seven-day retreat, attracted a wave of support in the comments from her friends and followers, having last year also celebrated her ‘menopausal body’ in a swimwear photoshoot.
‘Yas queen 🔥👏❤️,’ praised one, while another simply wrote: ‘You look sensational x’
Many others were also talking about their personal ideas and experiences while wearing a bikini.
‘I’m 68 in a couple of weeks and still wearing a 👙x,’ shared one of Saira’s followers.
Others agreed that ladies over 50 should ‘definitely’ wear such style of swimwear.
‘Where I come from in Norway most people wear bikinis. My mum is 81 and wears one. I have never seen her in a swimsuit,’ another fan added.
Carol Vorderman, the host of Countdown, also related her unsettling experience of igniting a conversation over 20 years ago when she said that “age and what you wear should never be in the same sentence.”
‘Society’s views change’ she promised as she shared a story, recalling how a short blue dress she wore to the Baftas in 2000 sparked headlines.
‘It was front page for a week, everywhere people had opinions, BBC even made a debate show about it and flew a copy dress on from Paris!!!’ the author and qualified pilot recalled.
‘The question was SHOULD A WOMAN AGE [sic] 39 WEAR A DRESS ABOVE THE KNEE?!?! That was this century!!!’ she added.
