Regé-Jean Page has divulged that while shooting in armour for the new Dungeons & Dragons film, he wound up swimming in his “own juices,” which sounds horrifying. The 34-year-old English actor rose to prominence during the pandemic after appearing in the first season of Netflix’s historical romantic drama Bridgerton.
However, he declined to participate in the second season of the popular program, preferring to concentrate on other endeavours. Honor Among Thieves, a new Dungeons & Dragons film starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez, is one of those other endeavours. Regé-Jean portrays Xenk Yendar, a military leader and holy fighter, in a film that is supposedly “more Shrek than Assassin’s Creed.”
However, in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Regé-Jean acknowledged that his position was not as glamorous as you might think. ‘
‘Filming in armour is not where you want to be,’ he said. ‘You’re hot all day. You can’t sit down. The sweat goes nowhere — it just kind of hangs out.’
He continued: ‘[Your armour] becomes a scuba suit, just with your own juices. [Filming in sweat-filled armour] was delicious.’
Regé-Jean previously stated in a Variety interview that shooting in hot conditions while armoured was not one of his best experiences.
‘It was hot, everything’s kind of digging into your ribs. You’re trying to do these complicated fight sequences and nothing moves quite how it’s meant to.’
He continued: ‘Chain mail, plate armour? None of this is made for comfort.’
However, Regé-Jean stated that working with his ensemble members was well worth the sweaty days and evenings.
‘That was the most fun part of this journey, in terms of finding that dynamic with the cast,’ he told Screen Rant magazine.
‘First and foremost, it was incredibly easy because you have the privilege of working with an incredibly sharp, incredibly talented, very creative cast.’
Sophia Lillis, Regé-Jean’s co-star, confessed to having ‘weapon envy’ after seeing Regé-Jean’s fake blade while on set for the Dungeons & Dragons feature.
‘I got weapon envy from seeing Regé do his stunt stuff and not being able to do that, it just looks so cool,’ she told Metro.co.uk.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is in cinemas now.
