By showing his ‘Hitler moustache,’ Louis Theroux has offered admirers a glimpse into his fight with alopecia.
The actor, 53, admitted earlier this year that he ‘probably’ had alopecia after experiencing hair loss on his face, but claimed it ‘wasn’t a huge concern’ to him.
In an Instagram post, the documentary filmmaker elaborated on the condition and the ‘cruel game’ nature has performed on him with regard to how his facial hair currently grows.
Sharing a photo of himself and his facial hair on his Instagram page, he drew comparisons to Nazi party leader Adolf Hitler’s infamous moustache and the way his own grows because of the condition.
‘Nature has played a cruel trick on me,’ he began in his caption.
‘Thanks to my alopecia barbae (“of the beard”) I can now only grow a weird little Hitler moustache. This is what I look like after three days not shaving.’
He went on to say that he has ‘given up’ on his beard ever ‘growing back to its luxuriant former glory,’ but he would prefer it to all fall out instead of ‘having a tiny remnant in a potentially offensive configuration.’
Louis also considered if the disease might cause him to lose hair on his head.
‘And now a bald patch has appeared on the back of my head making me wonder if my proper hair-hair might be next to go. In two years or less I may be bald! [sigh],’ he wrote.
He then promoted his upcoming podcast, The Louis Theroux Podcast, which will be launching exclusively on Spotify tomorrow.

‘Thankfully there’s always audio and in fact in two days I have a new podcast launching exclusively on Spotify (there’s the plug – no pun intended) – The Louis Theroux Podcast.
‘So I suppose you can make me feel better, should you want to, by checking it out. Episode One with Shania Twain drops on Tuesday June 6.’
Alopecia is a chronic inflammatory disorder that damages hair follicles and causes hair loss over time.
Alopecia areata, unlike male or female pattern hair loss, produces patches of hair loss on the scalp, whereas alopecia causes full hair loss on the scalp.
Louis said that the condition ‘mainly happened over 2022’ in an Instagram post revealing he suffered from alopecia.
