Lewis Capaldi, a huge fan of the WWE, celebrated lavishly when Wish You The Best hit the UK Top 1 for the seventh time.
When the 26-year-old singer learned that his most recent song had topped the charts, he was in a terrific mood and, in classic Lewis manner, he stripped off and covered himself with five WWE Championship belts to celebrate.
He even imitated Hall of Famer Booker T, who frequently boasted about having won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship five times, and stole one of the legendary wrestler’s catchphrases.
Clearly overjoyed, Lewis tweeted: ‘can you dig it suckaaaaaaa?!!? cannot believe i’m able to say that ‘wish you the best’ is my 5TH UK NUMBER 1 SINGLE!! 🎉
‘honestly am so, so happy and continue to be astounded by everyone’s support thank you thank you thank you ❤️ x (sic)’
The Scottish star took his living out of his wrestling fantasy a step further by using a video on Instagram to give some trash talking to his “enemies.”
Still in his boxers with WWE Title belts aplenty, he said: ‘Hello everybody, it’s Lewis Capaldi here – or the artist formerly known as Lewis Capaldi. But now you can call me Booker T because I am a five time, five time, five time, five time, five time UK Number 1-having artist!
‘Thank you to all of those who bought the song, streamed the song, wish you the best. To all my enemies, I hope you perish in the flames, motherf***ers! See you later!’
With Someone You Loved, Before You Go, Forget Me, and Pointless, Lewis previously topped the UK singles charts. His debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent also topped the album charts.
Lewis’ winning streak appears to be continuing with the release of the follow-up Broken By Desire to a Heavenly Sent the following month.
WWE certainly seem impressed, with the official BT Sport Twitter account sharing one of the photos and referencing current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns as they wrote: ‘We acknowledge @LewisCapaldi 👆’
And the official WWE UK account added: ‘5-TIME CHAMP! Congratulations @LewisCapaldi ☝️’
Lewis has seen WWE performances in the UK previously, but he hasn’t yet entered the ring. Perhaps this summer, when the company’s Money In The Bank event visits The O2 in London, Lewis will get the opportunity.
