Holly Willoughby has returned to social media for the first time since Phillip Schofield admitted to lying about having an affair with a young runner.
The 41-year-old This Morning host has remained silent on social media since May 18, when it was revealed that Phil would be leaving the show after more than two decades.
Holly posted to Instagram at the moment, thanking her former co-star for “13 great years” on TV with her and that it will be weird not to have him on the sofa alongside her.
However, after Phillip admitted to lying about having an affair with a man 30 years his junior who worked on the programme, Holly resorted to Instagram stories to express how ‘hurtful’ it was to have been ‘lied’ to.
Holly hasn’t posted anything on social media since, and she’s stayed out of the spotlight during the reaction from her shocking confession by travelling to Portugal with her family.
Holly returned to This Morning on Monday with new co-host Josie Gibson at her side, and addressed the controversy squarely with a statement at the start of the show – and sources say she is done speaking about it.
Now, for the first time since the drama began, the presenter has returned to social media, and she is eager to go back to work on the programme.
On Tuesday morning, she headed to Instagram to announce the costume she would be wearing on the show, a lovely floral flock, and smiled at the camera as she posed for a selfie.
Alongside the snap, she wrote: ‘Morning Tuesday… see you on @thismorning at 10am with @josiegibson85 … the wonderful @sarah.beeny joins us today to talk about her incredibly important and personal documentary.’
While some comments focused on the controversy surrounding Phillip’s exit from This Morning and ITV, others focused on the photo itself, with one praising her attire for its ‘beautiful hues.’
‘You look lovely and I hope you’re feeling ok,’ she added, while one wrote excitedly: ‘GORGEOUS DRESS!!’
Holly addressed the fallout on her first day back on This Morning on Monday, saying first it felt ‘very strange indeed sitting here without Phil.’
She said she had felt ‘shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions.’
‘You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process, and it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health.
‘I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone,’ she continued.
‘I hope that we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.
Following a mixed reaction from viewers, it has been stated that Holly would only address the consequences in yesterday’s episode.
An insider shared: ‘This is the only time Holly will ever speak about Phil and what has happened. She still feels incredibly angry and upset by his actions and is very much still trying to get her head around it.
‘It took a lot for Holly to compose herself and speak about what has gone on in the last few weeks. But people expecting her to sit and pour her heart out will be waiting for a long time,’ they added to The Sun.
