Celebrity Gogglebox actor and Happy Mondays dancer Mark Berry – as Bez – has stated he’s ‘fortunate to be alive’ following a February motorbike accident.
The 59-year-old TV celebrity was riding with a group of professional motorcyclists when he lost control of his front end and crashed, fracturing bones, ligaments, and his foot.
He was near the mountains in Magaluf, the famed party district of the Spanish island of Majorca, when the disaster occurred, and revealed four months later that he is still “not quite right.”
Speaking to The Daily Star, he said: ‘We were off-road in the mountains near Magaluf – it was literally on the way home. I lost the front end and had a really bad accident.
‘I broke bones. I broke my foot and did all my ligaments in.
‘I’m just recovered. It still hurts a bit and it’s not quite right, but it’s getting more and more easier.’
Despite the terrifying occurrence, the dancer isn’t giving up her pastime anytime soon.
‘I’ll never give it up, because I get so much pleasure out of it,’ he admitted.
‘My last accident was three years ago, and if I can go another three without injury, I’ll be happy.”
He stated that the pastime helps him to forget about his problems.
The singer’s fast recuperation coincides with his tour with the supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos, which also comprises Happy Mondays vocalist Shaun Ryder, Oasis bassist Andy Bell, and The Who drummer Zak Starkey.
Bez has been on Dancing On Ice and Celebrity Gogglebox in addition to being a member of the Happy Mondays and Black Grape, where he plays his famed maracas.
