Netflix has released the first trailer for the forthcoming reality competition based on the Korean drama Squid Game.
The series rose to prominence in 2021, when fans all around the world got obsessed with the extraordinarily violent, thrilling, and compelling programme, which featured hundreds of people participating in children’s games with a lethal twist.
Soon after, Netflix announced the creation of a real-life Squid Game, in which entrants will compete in similar activities for a cash reward.
The news sparked debate owing to the original series’ message on desperate individuals doing desperate things for money – as well as the sheer violence of the games themselves.
In reaction to the outrage and rumours of a’serious injury’ while filming, Netflix maintained that they take set safety extremely seriously.
A first peek of Squid Game: The Challenge was released on Netflix’s Tudum Day on Saturday night.
Netflix said in a teaser clip, “This November, the game you love becomes reality.”
It then showed a crew working hard to recreate the set from the Korean drama, as the horrific Red Light Green Light music played and masked personnel put up the perilous activities.
As the doll made of horrors turns around, a number of players are shown going into the macabre playground, being cautioned to stay behind the queue, as Red Light Green Light starts.
Squid Game: The Challenge will be available on the streaming service in November.

Announced in 2022, the programme puts 456 contestants through their paces with a variety of challenges.
Unlike in the original series, players do not die if they are knocked out, but they do have the opportunity to earn a massive cash reward of $4.56 million (£3.7 million).
‘We care profoundly about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and have invested in all the required safety protocols,’ Netflix stated in a statement released following claims of risks on set.
‘While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue.’
