Drew Barrymore reacted angrily to her estranged mother Jaid Barrymore’s latest accusations.
The Never Been Kissed actress, 48, made her big screen debut at the age of five before becoming a global child star in the classic ET at the age of seven.
Drew attended Studio 54 with her mother Jaid Barrymore before ending up in rehab at the age of 12.
In a recent interview with New York magazine, the talk show host discussed her struggle to come to terms with her childhood and the abuse and neglect she suffered as a child, particularly at the hands of her mother, but later claimed the interview was misrepresented in order to falsely claim that she wished her mother was dead.
‘You know what, to all you tabloids out there, you have been f****g with my life since I was 13 years old,’ she said in her latest Instagram post.
‘I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth.
‘I have been vulnerable, and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship, while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive, and that for those of us that have to figure that out in real-time, cannot wait as in they cannot wait for the time. Not that the parent is dead.’
Fellow celebs appreciated Drew’s statement, with actress Jennifer Garner responding, ‘You’re courageous and true, and I admire you.’
Jennifer Love Hewitt, who plays Garfield, said, ‘Yes! Allow them to have it!
Drew has forgiven Jaid for putting her to the facility despite her trauma.
She said: ‘I think she created a monster and she didn’t know what to do with the monster. This was her last gasp, and I really was out of control, and I forgive her for making this choice.
‘She probably felt like she had nowhere to turn and I’m sure she lived with a lot of guilt for years.’
Drew got officially emancipated from her parents, Jaid and John, and moved into her own flat at the age of 15 after another term in rehab following a suicide attempt at the age of 14.
She grew separated from her mother, claiming that losing Jaid was the “worst pain I’ve ever known.”
However, the mother and daughter have since reconciled, with Drew saying: ‘I just thought, I have to let this go. What is this doing for either of us? I think she’s old enough now to be in a different place in her life. I know the changes that I’ve made and how long they took, I know that’s possible for people, so why not her too?’
