Dave Bautista has spoken openly about his role as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy.
While the former wrestler expressed gratitude for his Marvel role, he also expressed’relief’ that the blockbuster franchise in which he co-stars with Chris Pratt is coming to a close.
Bautista, 53, revealed: ‘There’s a relief [that Guardians of the Galaxy is over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role.’
Speaking to GQ magazine, he elaborated: ‘I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him [but] the makeup process was beating me down.
‘And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy – it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.’
Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 is set to be the final instalment in the series, which also stars Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper.
In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Bautista recently got to try his hand at something a little more theatrical.
The Rian Johnson thriller also starred Daniel Craig, and Bautista played men’s rights activist and streamer Duke Cody, which earned him positive reviews.
Prior to acting, Bautista had a successful in-ring career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he was known as Batista.
Since making his acting debut in 2006, Bautista has been in films such as James Bond‘s Spectre in 2015, Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, and Dune in 2021.
M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin is up next for Bautista. ‘While vacationing at an isolated cabin in the woods, a young girl and her parents are taken captive by four armed strangers who demand they make an awful choice to avert the apocalypse,’ according to the film’s synopsis.
Doesn’t it sound good? Bautista feels the same way. In fact, the A-lister said that the script for the picture provided him with the most conversation he’s ever had.
He told GQ of the project: ‘It’s by far the most I’ve ever spoken in a film. Just huge pages of monologues.’
Bautista added: ‘We were shooting on film, which is very expensive. And we were shooting with one camera, so you don’t have the luxury of edits. It’s your only opportunity—you need a perfect take. It’s a lot of pressure. I want to remember my dialogue, but not at the expense of losing the emotion of the scene.’
Boy oh boy are we excited for this one.
