Darius Campbell-Danesh’s girlfriend has revealed the facts of his autopsy, which occurred after his death in August at the age of 41.
Last summer, the ex-Pop Idol star was discovered in his US flat in Rochester, Minnesota.
An autopsy report eventually indicated that the singer died accidently as a consequence of the ‘toxic effects of chloroethane ingested,’ with asphyxia also contributing to his death.
Local police stated that there were “no evidence of purpose or suspicious circumstances” at the time.
Lauren Cheek, Danesh-Campbell’s girlfriend, has revealed that his heart expanded to double its normal size during his autopsy.
He also suffered a fractured neck from a vehicle accident in 2010, which he never had checked out.
‘Darius was living with this heart condition that he didn’t know he had,’ the American businesswoman said.
She added to The Sun: ‘So many things could have taken him, but this one thing did, and he died in his sleep.
‘His mum told me they only found out after they did the autopsy. His heart was twice the size it was supposed to be, which was fitting, because that is genuinely how he was — he had so much love.’
Cheek went on to say that Danesh-Campbell’s neck injury forced him to utilise chloroethane as a pain reliever.
‘He didn’t want to take medicines, not even aspirin,’ claimed the 30-year-old.
‘That’s what killed him — the substance mixed with his heart and he couldn’t take it.’
