Amber Heard has discussed her comeback to the Aquaman trilogy and the ‘pressure’ she faced before reprising her role as Mera.
The 37-year-old actress acknowledged her excitement about returning to the DC Extended Universe and stated that she felt ‘honoured’ to be a part of the film.
Despite her delight, she acknowledges the expectations she faced before to filming.
Following the release of her current film, In The Fire, the actress discussed the differences between the two films and how she was preparing for her next movie.
Amber said: ‘These are very different kinds of projects representing two very different ends of the spectrum in my industry.’
The A-lister continued telling Deadline: ‘There’s a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be.
‘Then on the other end of the spectrum is a small indie film like In The Fire, a work of art and work of love, with nowhere near the same resources, and so there are compromises there.
‘The best luck you can have as an actor is to be able to balance both. Aquaman, that franchise and the machinery behind it, I’m very honoured, honoured to be a part of that.
‘And then there are these small passion projects like In The Fire, where I’m proud to have gotten to know the filmmaker and the cast, and we got dirty together, to breathe life into this story.
‘There’s something cool about that, and I think success is an actor who is able to have both those things.’
Amber first appeared in the superhero film in 2018, but she experienced anger from fans after her involvement in a legal fight with her ex Johnny Depp, prompting a petition to have her removed from the cast.
Despite the backlash, film producer Peter Safran rebuffed the notion and defended the decision to maintain the actress in the role of Mera.
He said: ‘I don’t think we’re ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure. You gotta do what’s best for the movie.
‘We felt that if it’s [director] James Wan and [star] Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That’s really what it was.
‘One is not unaware of what is going on in the Twitter-verse, but that doesn’t mean you have to react to it or take it as gospel or accede to their wishes. You have to do what’s right for the film, and that’s really where we landed on it.’
