Tonight, series 3 of The Bay came to an end, following a six-episode arc that saw newcomer DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) thrown straight into a devastating case.
In the latest season of the ITV drama, which boasts a cast including Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Thomas Law and Andrew Dowbiggin, the police force investigated the death of a young man called Saif Rahman, who had a promising career ahead of him as a boxer.
Saif’s family, including mum Mariam (Rina Mahoney) and brothers Jamal (Nadeem Islam) and Adnan (Michael Karim) are thrown into despair, as secrets emerge throughout the investigation.
Series three marked Marsha’s debut in the show as Jenn, having replaced Morven Christie as the lead, who played FLO (family liaison officer) Lis Armstrong for the first two seasons of the show.
So will The Bay be back in future?
Will there be another series of The Bay?
Following the finale of series three, it has been confirmed that The Bay will be back for a fourth outing.
Fans will be overjoyed by the news, having praised Marsha for her performance after replacing Morven on the show, as well as the gripping drama on the whole co-created by Daragh Carville.
Filming is due to begin at some point this year, with further casting news set to be announced on a later date.
In a statement, ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, expressed the studio’s excitement over continuing with a new story in Morecambe.
‘I’m delighted that we will be returning to Morecambe for another series of The Bay. Marsha Thomason delivered a brilliant performance as DS Jenn Townsend, and it will be exciting to see where Daragh takes her character in series four,’ she said.
‘Thanks to everyone at Tall Story Pictures for creating and continuing to deliver such a distinctive series.’
Catherine Oldfield, Executive Producer at Tall Story Pictures, said that the company is ‘delighted’ to see how audiences responded to Marsha’s portrayal of Jenn, as well as ‘how Jenn’s arrival and her personal storyline has breathed new energy into the show’.
‘Together with Daragh and all our amazing cast and crew, we can’t wait to get going on the new series,’ she added.
This year’s series of The Bay was highly praised for its Deaf representation, casting actor Nadeem, who is Deaf, to play the Deaf character of Jamal.
In the show, Jamal frequently communicates with his family and police officer Karen (Erin) using sign language.
During an interview with Metro.co.uk, Nadeem said how ‘proud’ he felt to be a ‘part of history’ on the programme, saying: ‘These types of storylines happen to many Deaf people too – it’s time to be realistic.
‘Hopefully the decision by The Bay, and particularly the Casting Director Kelly Valentine Hendry, to cast a Deaf actor will encourage this industry to change for the better.’
The Bay is available to watch on ITV Hub.
