The Last of Us may have ended with the publication of the season 1 episode 9 finale, but it doesn’t end there.
The programme will return for season 2 after audiences across the world fell in love with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s depiction of video game fan favourites Joel and Ellie.
Many anticipate that the two will be a lock for awards next year for their outstanding performances, while others are left wondering what the future of the TV adaption will look like when it returns.
The series’ producers are excited to adapt the video game The Last of Us Part II, which is likely to give another hard-hitting emotional rollercoaster – will Bella be returning to portray Ellie when the new episodes are ready to be released?

Is Bella Ramsey returning for The Last of Us season 2?
As the first season of The Last of Us came to an end, some fans may have questioned if Bella would return for the second, given the time gap between the two games.
Yet, the award-winning performer will undoubtedly return for the sequel.
With the publication of the finale, co-showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed Bella’s return, as well as how Ellie will have aged in subsequent episodes.
‘She was 17 when she joined us. She is only 19 years old. Which, by the way, is Ellie’s age in The Last of Us, Part 2,’ he told Deadline, after Ellie was introduced in season one as being 14 years old.
“She doesn’t look like [Ellie],” someone said.
”I’m like, it doesn’t matter. Just watch what happens. And now they know.’
‘We will show things, but it will be different,’ he said, emphasising his ‘worry’ about filming The Last of Us. It will be different, just like this season was. Sometimes it will be drastically different, and occasionally it will be only slightly different.
‘It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil [Druckmann, co-showrunner and video game creator] and I wanna make. But we are making it with Bella.’
What other roles does Bella Ramsey have lined up post-Ellie?
Previous to The Last of Us, Bella had a number of notable parts, including Lady Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch, and Birdy in Catherine Named Birdy.
She also played Jane Grey in Becoming Elizabeth and starred in the second season of His Dark Materials.
Bella will provide her voice to the animated film Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, a sequel to the 2000 stop-motion film.
She joins a cast that includes Zachary Levi, Thandiwe Newton, Romesh Ranganathan, and Daniel Mays, with the picture set to be released later this year on Netflix.
