In the fourth segment of Netflix’s You, Joe Goldberg returns with his sinister-esque charm… but it appears like someone else is doing the stalking.
Season four follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) as he leaves America for a new life in London, and it wouldn’t be You without a new identity for the disturbed guy.
Despite taking on a new identity as Professor Jonathan Moore, Joe appears to be unable to escape his past, and it appears that it is going to catch up with him when someone begins monitoring his every move.
How the tables have shifted.
Joe has acquired quite a few enemies as his murderous antics have travelled from New York to Los Angeles, and we can’t help but wonder who will meet their horrible end in London this time around.
With season four starting in just a few hours, we’ve compiled a list of suspects we believe may be the ones causing Joe stress.
Marienne Bellamy
For those who are unfamiliar, Joe fell in love with his boss, Marienne Bellamy (Tatti Gabrielle), and the two pondered fleeing together to start a new life.
So why is she the one who is making Joe sweat?
During the suspenseful season three conclusion, Joe’s ex-wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) learns that her husband was seeing his coworker, but she is much more upset to learn that Joe murdered Marienne’s violent ex-partner Ryan Goodwin (Scott Michael Foster).
After deciding to spare Marienne’s life, Love took it upon herself to inform her that Joe had murdered Ryan, causing a startled Marienne to flee the suburbs for a new life in Paris with her daughter Julliette.
Only one encounter between Joe and Marienne in London is seen in the current clip.
‘You’re a murderer Joe,’ she tells him.
But may she be the prime suspect in Joe’s long-awaited downfall?
Love Quinn
I understand what you’re thinking… “Love is no longer alive.”
But for those who know Love’s crafty mind, her tormenting Joe from beyond the dead doesn’t seem that far-fetched.
Season three was a tumultuous journey for the unstable couple who sought consolation only through murder.
An age-old story!
Following Love’s tragic death, followers believe she is exacting revenge on her ex-husband, who stabbed her with a deadly needle.
‘#You prediction…’ said one. Love is not extinct. We never seen her body, so we can only speculate. In the upcoming season, she will be stalking Joe.’
‘I wish they hadn’t killed Love in #You Season 3 because her stalking Joe to London and tormenting him with Gossip Girl-esque emails and plans would’ve been beautifully iconic,’ said another.
Although it’s doubtful, we wouldn’t rule anything out!
Dr Nicky
Let’s go back to season one, when the gorgeous John Stamos appeared as Joe’s therapist, Dr Nicky.
Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), the initial target of Joe’s aspirations, was presented in the first installment.
Joe’s killer instincts kicked in once he found Beck was cheating on him with Dr Nicky.
Of fact, he considered killing the therapist several times, but after murdering Beck, he planned to frame the discredited psychologist for her death.
Although he did not appear in season 3, he did make a brief appearance in season two when Love’s excessively protective brother Forty (James Scully) pays him a visit when his suspicions about Joe get more intense.
But, after being falsely accused of murder, may Nicky be a suspect?
Ellie Alves
Joe formed an unexpected bond with his landlord’s daughter Ellie Alves in the second season (Jenna Ortega).
Despite his deadly pranks, Joe was fiercely protective of Ellie, but their relationship deteriorated after Love murdered Ellie’s sister Delilah after she discovered her and Joe’s affair.
Joe offered her money and encouraged her to start a new life somewhere in order to keep her away from Love’s insane and unstable family.
Ellie’s name is also used repeatedly towards the start of season three, as Joe confessed he routinely gives her money…. implying the two are still keeping tabs on each other.
Although Jenna has been leading the charge in Netflix’s Wednesday hit, she earlier stated that she would want to return to You.
‘I love that set,’ she said.
‘The team behind it, the writers are so witty and so funny, and then also just to work with Penn Badgley again.’
Ellie Alves, like Wednesday Addams, is not someone you want to mess with!
Dottie Quinn
Dottie (Saffron Burrows), Love’s free-spirited and frequently erratic mother, had a rocky connection with her daughter.
Love frequently chastised her mother’s parenting approach and chastised her for not being present for her.
Dottie was abandoned by the Quinn-Goldbergs towards the conclusion of season three after nearly endangering Baby Henry’s life.
It may appear to be a long shot, but Joe is the reason her children Love and Forty died.
So, will this be the ideal moment for her to redeem herself as a decent mother… Sounds a little strange, but it’s feasible.
You season 4 part 1 returns to Netflix on February 9 2023, and part 2 premieres March 9.
