Killing Eve fans will be over the moon to know a spin-off series may be in the works, just as the fourth and final series reaches its end.
The show’s creators may be planning a prequel series all about Carolyn Martens, the legendary spy and head of the Russia Desk at MI6 played by the truly excellent Fiona Shaw.
Labelled ‘The Real Boss’ by Villanelle (Jodie Comer), Carolyn was a young agent in Moscow in the 80s, and the new series may hone in on that period and her early life.
It’s therefore unlikely Villanelle and Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) will be making an appearance, but the spirit of Killing Eve will ‘still live on’.
‘In many ways, Carolyn was a bit of a curveball choice for a prequel, but in other ways she was an obvious choice,’ an insider said of this new project.
‘The creators could have gone for Villanelle or Eve, but Carolyn provides a different take on things,’ the source told The Sun.
‘Bosses felt that Killing Eve had to come to an end but its spirit should live on in a new form, and this is the project they’re focusing their efforts on now.’
It’s been claimed the series is only in the ‘early stages of development’ and it would be a while before coming to screens.
However, for now, it’s nice for fans to have something to look forward to – us included.
While it may be Villanelle and Eve’s last chance at their cat and mouse game, Konstantin actor Kim Bodnia recently told Metro.co.uk he wouldn’t rule out something in the future.
