WandaVision showcases Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as they’ve never been seen before, living in a sitcom-style reality in a suburban neighbourhood called Westview.
The Marvel show plays with its audience’s perception of reality, leaving fans guessing what’s real or – perhaps more precisely – who is real in the story.
As people prepare to watch the first two episodes on Disney Plus, here are some comic book series that could help shed further light on the titular characters.
The Vision and the Scarlet Witch
In WandaVision, Wanda and Vision’s domestic life in the suburbs is the predominant focus of the series, the married pair settling for marital bliss over superhero escapades.
This likely takes strong inspiration from the 1980s The Vision and the Scarlet Witch comic book series, which follows a similar storyline as the couple decide to take a step back from the Avengers.
In the trailers for WandaVision, it is revealed that Wanda becomes pregnant, something that also happens in the second volume of The Vision and the Scarlet Witch series, published in 1985, when she gives birth to twins, having conceived the babies with the help of magic.
Having previously only seen a brief glimpse of Wanda and Vision’s relationship on screen in the MCU in Avengers: Infinity War, WandaVision will undoubtedly draw on the couple’s dynamic from the comic book series.
Vision
In 2015, Vision starred in a solo comic book series, which sees the character create his own family of a wife and teenage children.
Just like in WandaVision, the family (sans Wanda) go off to live in a suburban town, living as ‘normal’ a life as they can.
However, just as will unfold with the new Marvel TV series, the family face some obstacles along the way.
