Viewers of Gregg Wallace’s latest documentary were sick to their stomachs as they watched him tour a ‘human flesh’ factory.
Yes, you read that correctly. The MasterChef judge hosted the Channel 4 documentary Miracle beef, in which he investigated a contentious new lab-grown beef product.
Greg, 58, was followed to Lincolnshire to learn how steaks, burgers, sausages, bacon, and other foods might be generated from “thin slices of human flesh.”
Essentially, the appeal was that ‘human meat’ is far cheaper than animal flesh, with prices as low as 99p per steak, helping families to get by during the cost of living crisis.
Furthermore, it was envisaged that ordinary people may get money from the practise if they wished to ‘give cells’ to it.
As the episode aired, Good Harvest – whose tagline is “Meat the Future” – published a graphic on how people might “sign up” for the extraction on Twitter.

It was reported that you may get up to £250 for donating a buttock…
The most terrifying part of the documentary was when a lady named Gillian, 67, appeared, with the retired receptionist whipping her thigh for £200 to assist her pay two weeks’ worth of heating bills.
While lying on the operation table to have her tissue ‘extracted,’ she was even asked if she wanted to have two extractions for an additional fee!
The whole notion seems absurd, we know, and the internet was left ‘appalled’ as they watched Greg grow excessively enthused about the ‘wonder meat’.
Taking to Twitter to voice their outrage, one individual said that if this is what people are thinking, “the world has gone insane.”
What is going on? Have I crashed my car on the way home from work is this all in my head? Am I in a coma? #miraclemeat

Questioning if they had missed April Fools Day, one person wrote: ‘Have I been in a coma and woken up on April 1st? This can NOT be real’.
Another likened it to Black Mirror and asked if the doc was a ‘hoax’.
‘Is this a horror or a joke documentary?’, one viewer tweeted.
‘This is like Frankenstein come to life’, one person remarked.
‘This has got to be a spoof! Are times that bad we are turning to cannibalism’, asked another.
Another disgusted viewer penned: ‘Surely what I have just watched isn’t real! Taking extractions of tissue from both adults and CHILDREN and growing meat from it! Wtf!! They all looked petrified.. that place needs closing down!’
Fortunately, it was a parody, but that didn’t stop viewers from being horrified by it!
The documentary was revealed to be parody towards the conclusion, with the broadcaster wanting to highlight the severity of the cost of living situation.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: ‘This “mockumentary” is a witty yet thought-provoking commentary on the extreme measures many people are being forced to take to stay afloat in our society during the cost of living crisis.
‘Channel 4 has a long and rich history of satire and has often used humour as an accessible way to highlight society’s most important issues.’
