Mike Brewer, a Wheeler Dealers celebrity, has disclosed the specifics of an automobile accident that went unnoticed by the cameras.
Mike, 59, and co-host Marc ‘Elvis’ Priestley, 47, return to television this month with a new season of their popular vehicle restoration show.
The former described how one misstep caused the latter to wreck the automobile he was driving, despite the fact that cameras missed the event totally.
‘The only time the camera wasn’t rolling was when he drove through a motorway barrier,’ Mike said.
‘Not like James Bond by the way, but a motorway barrier came down and he drove though it.’
‘It was the most funniest thing that ever happened and we didn’t have a camera on it. I’m gutted about that, it was very funny,’ Mike added to The Sun.
Mike and Elvis’ automobile accident occurred during shooting the 27th season of Wheeler Dealers, during which the couple embarked on an epic six-month journey across the world.
The Discovery series follows them on their globe tour, visiting nations in Europe, North America, and Australia.
‘We’re experiencing things for the first time and out of our comfort zone and when you roll the cameras in those moments you get entertainment,’ former Formula One mechanic Elvis said.
‘None of it is acted, none of it is put on, it’s just genuine and that’s what hopefully makes this show so nice.’
This is not the only disaster in the show’s recent history. Last year, the duo commemorated their 20th anniversary by acquiring a vintage Ford Fiesta for repair.
However, catastrophe struck when the automobile was stolen after they had completed fixing it, from the team hotel’s car park. The 1979 model, which cost £11,000 to rebuild, has never been located.
‘They parked a big lorry in front of the security cameras of the hotel and they spent the next 25 minutes behind the lorry with cutters, angle grinders and all kind of things to steal it,’ Mike revealed at the time.
The Top Gear rival has historically followed dealer Mike and technician Elvis as they assist auto fanatics in trading in their old vehicles to achieve the cars of their dreams.
Mike has presented Wheeler Dealers since its inaugural episode in 2003. Meanwhile, Elvis joined the show in 2020 to replace Mike’s longtime co-host, Ant Anstead.
Mike’s initial co-host, mechanic Edd China, departed the show in 2017 over an apparent disagreement about its future.
Mike discussed their most recent encounter on the Road to Success podcast.
‘The last time I was with Edd we were in Paris together getting drunk in a Paris hotel room where I’d just given him a gig,’ Mike said.
‘He needed money. I didn’t need the money so I’d given him a gig. People don’t know any of this stuff. We got drunk together, hugged at the end of it. That was the last time I saw him,’ he claimed.
Wheeler Dealers World Tour will be available on Discovery Channel and Discovery Plus on Mondays at 9pm from April 29.
