Jay Leno has described how his pillow’melted’ to his face during his horrible automobile fire, which resulted in severe burns.
In November 2022, the 73-year-old comic suffered third-degree burns and had a ‘brand-new ear’ during a garage fire.
He was fiddling beneath his 1907 White Steam Car when he got a face full of gas, which ignited and caught fire.
In a recent interview about the tragic catastrophe, Piers Morgan, who has been busy bragging about Barbie’s Oscar snubs, revealed more grim facts of the aftermath.
Jay revealed that he originally drove himself to the hospital and checked in, pledging to return in the morning with his wife of over 40 years, Mavis, who no longer drives.
‘My face [had been] on fire and I went to bed and when I woke up, the pillow had melted to my face!’ he told Piers on his show, Uncensored, speaking from the garage that houses his vehicles.
As the broadcaster recoiled in horror, Jay added, ‘So I’m sitting there with scissors, cutting the pillow [off].’
He told the horrible story with his fingers sliding up his face in a snipping motion and sound effects.
‘When I drove back to hospital, they took the pillow off my face,’ Jay then laughed, as he recalled that he had lost several layers of skin in the fire.
Upon his departure from the hospital, Leno stood for a photo with several staff members, revealing apparent burn scars on his face, neck, and hand, and thanked them for their care.
Jay, despite being’seconds away’ from losing an eye, remained upbeat and refused to ‘whine’ over the tragedy.
He told PageSix: ‘Look, when you’re in my position, when you’re any kind of celebrity, you’re luckier than most people.
‘So, when something bad happens to you, you can’t whine and complain about it because bad things happen to people every day – either they get burned or they get cut – and they don’t have the financial wherewithal I did.’
The renowned motor fanatic, who owns over 180 automobiles and 160 motorbikes, has not allowed this and other close calls with death dissuade his devotion.
Last June, he was photographed driving his silver vintage Bentley at the annual Rodeo Drive Concourse D’Elegance event. He also has a McLaren F1, an orange 967 Lamborghini Miura P400, and a handful of Morgans.
Jay’s most costly automobile is thought to be his 1934 Duesenberg Walker Coup, which is worth $20 million because to its uniqueness and unusual engine layout, but he also owns a ‘priceless’ car that he designed in collaboration with GM, the 2006 Jay Leno Ecojet Concept.
According to DuPont Registry estimates from July 2022, his automobiles are valued around $52 million (£40.9 million).
Piers Morgan Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm on TalkTV.
