A first look at Henry Cavill in his final season of The Witcher… Many supporters have reacted angrily to the possibility of saying farewell.
In October of last year, it was announced that Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, 33, will take up the starring role of Geralt of Rivia in Season 4 of the blockbuster Netflix fantasy drama.
In the next third installment of the series, Superman actor Henry, 39, will bid farewell to the monster hunter, reconnecting with co-stars Anya Chalotra, 26, and Freya Allan, 21, for a final batch of adventures.
Many fans were adamant that they would not continue watching The Witcher without Henry, who not only delivered a faithful portrayal of the character, but was also a knowledgeable fan of the book series created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
So, while the first image of Henry with Anya and Freya in the third season has stirred excitement, it has also sparked a new wave of melancholy about the lead character’s impending departure.
The picture shows Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in a tight, heartfelt embrace, with the promise of more information being released about the upcoming new episodes.
‘Savour every last bit of Cavill’s Geralt,’ one forlorn fan tweeted in response, while another said: ‘As soon as the last episode with Henry is done, I’m done.’
‘Not interested. Cavill was the best thing about this show,’ someone else said, praising Henry for how much he knew about the lore of The Witcher.
Several viewers quipped that they were viewing the third outing of The Witcher as the final season of the show, refusing to consider watching Liam’s take on the role.
‘After season 3 we are done 🥱,’ one said, while another remarked: ‘It’s wild that this show is ending this season!’
‘Dang, I can’t believe this is going to be the last season of The Witcher and they will not be making any more episodes of this show after this one. What a ride,’ someone else wrote.
One Twitter user promised: ‘As soon as the last episode with Henry is done, I’m done.’
When Henry left The Witcher, people speculated that it was so he could return to the DC Extended Universe as Clark Kent, aka Superman.
However, it was then reported that his days as the caped superhero are likewise believed to be coming to an end.
Nonetheless, he is beginning on an exciting new endeavour, bringing the world of Warhammer to life, a goal he has been working on for 30 years.
‘For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life,’ he said in December last year.
‘Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.
‘To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen.’
The Witcher season 3 is expected to drop on Netflix later this year.
