The Voice UK 2023 has a champion, and the winning singing team has created history on the show.
Jen and Liv won the ITV singing competition’s grand finale over the other finalists – Hope Winter, Callum Doignie, and Jolie Stevens – as mentors Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones, Anne-Marie, and will.I.am was there for the momentous occasion.
Some fans congratulated Jen and Liv on their triumph, praising them as a ‘current’ act with’so much energy’ and stating they were ‘thrilled’ to be the first group to win the UK series.
Others, on the other hand, were less pleased, even confessing that they would not watch the show again next year.
Jen and Liv celebrated with their emotional coach will.i.am, who told the duo that they reminded him of his friendship with Black Eyed Peas bandmate Apl.de.Ap.
‘Seeing the girls, they remind me of me and Apl, me and my best friend,’ the musician said.
‘To see people who really truly appreciate one another and support one another it just reminds me of the person that I built my dream with and that’s my best friend,’ he explained.
The pair expressed their gratitude to will.i.am, 48, and told him: ‘We are just really grateful, we’ve worked really hard and our families over there, we love them so much.
‘All the coaches, Will you’ve been so life-changing for us we just feel amazing, thank you everyone, thank you.’
Following Jen and Liv’s win, one person wrote on X: ‘I really think they could be the most successful winners… they’re current, can dance, sing, rap… I see good things for them!’
Another wrote: ‘So pleased for them and @iamwill his first win fantastic .’
However, one of their critics remarked: ‘I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this absolute nonsense. Not going to bother watching next year now it’s confirmed this show is a fix .’
And another blistering reaction read: ‘The other three finalists were better than the winners. Absolute rubbish decision – give the vote back to the public!’
Jenna, 21, from Whitley Bay, and Liv, 24, from County Durham, have signed a record deal with Universal Music and received a £50,000 advance. In addition, for the first time, the winners will be flown to Mauritius for seven nights.
They competed against Hope Winter, Callum Doignie, and Jolie Stevens for the top prize, but were able to persuade the studio audience and super fans that they were the most deserving.
As a result of their success, fans may now download their single, a cover of Chaka Khan’s I’m Every Woman.
The pre-recorded programme included a special performance by Raye of her single Oscar Winning Tears, as well as a return appearance by last year’s winner, Anthonia Edwards, who her single All I Do Is Try.
This was Olly’s last episode, as he announced in September that he would be leaving the programme after six years in the red chair.
The former X Factor judge was’shocked’ by the choice at the time. Olly, 39, stated that he ‘accepts’ the decision to let him go, but emphasised how much he will’miss’ his work.
The Voice UK is available to watch on ITVX.
