The Voice got emotional on Monday night after John Holiday had his coach John Legend ‘crying’ after a special performance.
The talented singer delivered a powerful rendition of Coldplay’s 2005 single, Fix You, which was dedicated to Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen following the tragic miscarriage of their son, Jack.
Chris Martin famously the song wrote the song for then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow following the death of her father, Bruce Paltrow.
Holiday left the entire crowd feeling emotional as he played the piano and belted out the moving song on the fog-covered stage.
Even Holiday, 35, was tearing up by the time he finished the performance, which earned a standing ovation from Legend.
As he reacted to the performance, Legend stated: ‘I mean, I’m over here crying.
‘When I talked to John about doing this song, I just said it would mean a lot to us if you just give your emotional best performance and let yourself be not perfect, let yourself just live in the emotion of the song. And we felt it.’
Fellow judge Kelly Clarkson shared a similar sentiment as she gushed: ‘The very last note you gave broke me in a way that I had to shut off [because of] being on live national television.’
Before the performance, Legend admitted he along with his wife and their eldest daughter Luna had cried while listening to the song together.
He explained: ‘Going through what we went through as a family and then what so many other families around the world, there’s a lot of folks who are struggling and need this kind of message.’
Holiday admitted: ‘It’s one of those songs that is so special and I definitely thought of you and Chrissy.’
Teigen, 35, lost her third child with Legend at 20 weeks pregnant, just one month after announcing they were expecting.
The two are also parents to daughter Luna Simone, four, and two-year-old son Miles Theodore.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
