Warning: spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian season 3 episode 7.
Following last week’s colourful episode of The Mandalorian, which included unexpected and outrageous cameos from Lizzo and Jack Black, the programme has taken a gloomy turn in season 3 episode 7.
While various factions of Mandalorian communities work together to reclaim their home planet of Mandalore, the villainous Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) gets in their way with new tools at his disposal, resulting in the capture of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).
Paz Vizsla (Tait Fletcher) is slain by Praetorian Guards who stab him repeatedly with their weapons while the other Mandalorians run in one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the whole Disney Plus series so far.
On a happier side, Grogu eventually (technically) utter his first words with the assistance of the freshly refurbished IG-12 robot – but he can’t get past ‘no’ and ‘yes’ so far.
Meanwhile, Din Djarin proclaims his devotion to Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), explaining to ‘Lady Kryze’ that he follows her not because she holds the Darksaber, but because she is dedicated to becoming a person of honor, leaving her speechless.
Ending explained as Paz Vizsla faces enemy on his own
After arriving on Mandalore, Bo, Din and the rest of their scouting party discover that there are some Mandalorian survivors still living on the planet, after their homeworld was destroyed in the purge.
They aren’t the only living species they encounter, as they descend into the planet’s Great Forge after being attacked by a massive dragon-like beast.
While they’re down there, they’re attacked by Imperial soldiers who turn out to be working for the one and only Moff Gideon, who’s dressed in Dark Trooper armour made of beskar alloy.
Din Djarin is captured after slipping into Moff Gideon’s trap, as the rest of the Mandalorians, including Grogu in IG-12, watch helplessly.
Bo uses the Darksaber to carve a breach in the closed door, allowing the scouting group to flee, but Paz Vizsla stays behind, claiming that there are still too many enemies to let them alone.
Paz Vizsla uses his machine gun-like weapon to shoot down a number of the assailants, hurling some of the side into the depths below while not allowing Bo to follow him.
He is, however, no match for the Praetorian Guard, who Star Wars fans will recall seeing fight Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) in the sequel trilogy film The Last Jedi.
Several fans voiced their outrage at seeing Paz die, with others pointing out that his son Ragnar (Wesley Kimmel) had now lost his father.
‘They did not have to give paz that brutal of a death. literally stabbed numerous times ARE YOU KIDDING ME??’ one person tweeted.
‘Rest in peace Paz Vizsla you were a real one you deserved sm better,’ someone else wrote.
Another viewer said, ‘Paz Visla is a king, idc what nobody say,’ while another couldn’t help but notice how ‘awesome’ the Praetorian Guards’ entry was, despite the tragedy that they then inflicted.
Predictions for The Mandalorian season 3 finale
Moff Gideon has finally appeared in the third season of The Mandalorian, and we can only speculate on the horrible things he has in store for his hostage Din Djarin.
We assume that during the torture he may have planned for Din (which we hope doesn’t happen), he may violently remove Mando’s helmet as a form of humiliation.
Given that Grogu is nestled in IG-12 and in command of the droid, we want to see the youngling combine his use of the Force with the droid’s gun-wielding talents for an epic combat scenario while rescuing his father.
We believe Bo will seek for the Mythosaur not just to aid her objective to unify the many factions of Mandalorians, but also to make Moff Gideon shudder.
Or, perhaps the Mythosaur will be moved by Din Djarin’s imprisonment in Mandalore and go out to rescue him?
The Mandalorian is available to watch on Disney Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
