Channel 4’s brand-new dating show the Language of Love is already a hige hit with fans, but who is Davina McCall’s co-host, Ricky Merino?
The eight-part series follows a group of Brits and a group of Spaniards pairing up at a Spanish country estate to see if they can find romance… despite not speaking each other’s language.
The Masked Singer judge presents the dating series alongside the TV host, with both on hand to monitor how the couples are progressing in their relationship after they learn all about each other’s backgrounds.
The programme is filmed in a country estate Finca in the region of Andalusia, Spain.
While everyone in Spain knows who the star is, Ricky is very much a fresh face in the UK- so here’s everything you need to know.
Who is Ricky Merino?
The 35-year-old presenter, who was dubbed the ‘Spanish Patrick Swayze’ after appearing on the talent show Operación Triunfo, was born in Mallorca.
The triple threat also studied agricultural engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid before gaining a degree in audiovisual communication from the University of Seville.
And he didn’t stop there, Ricky later got a master’s in creativity and televisions scripts at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid.
The singer, who is fluent in English, Spanish, and Catalan, is also currently appearing in Ghost: The Musical, as the male lead Sam Wheat.
Ricky told Channel 4 it was a ‘dream come true’ to be presenting on British TV to be next to Davina.
He said: ‘I asked Davina, “why do you British people always wear socks with flip flops when you come to Mallorca?” and “what is gravy made of?” and she didn’t know.’
His on-screen partner Davina praised their ‘natural chemistry’ and his ‘amazing’ vocals.
She gushed: ‘I love him so much! Anybody who works in television will know that double headers – presenting with somebody else – are so luck of the draw.
‘You’ve either got chemistry with someone or you haven’t. I obviously had looked at Ricky’s Instagram page before and thought “he is fabulous, he has an amazing singing voice, he’s very glamourous – he’s exactly my type of guy,” but you never know until you meet someone in the flesh and OH. MY. GOD.
‘We had the best laugh!
