Kim Kardashian has made an unusual statement on Ryan Murphy’s ‘fascinating’ series about OJ Simpson’s historic murder trial.
The renowned show, dubbed The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, premiered in 2016 and investigated the athlete’s 1994 murder of his partner, Nicole Brown Simpson.
Sarah Paulson headed a cast that included Sterling K Brown, John Travolta, and Cuba Gooding Jr., while Friends icon David Schwimmer as Kris Jenner’s ex-husband, lawyer Robert Kardashian Sr.
The Skims owner was shown on the current episode of the Kardashians alerting her siblings that she had gotten a coveted role in Ryan’s upcoming series, American Horror Story, with Emma Roberts.
‘I’ve never even told you. I decided I’m going to do a TV show, Ryan Murphy’s show, called American Horror Story,’ she said, revealing that she met the producer over dinner at her mom’s house.
‘He kept saying, “I really want you to do American Horror Story.”’
‘He did the OJ show, which I thought was so fascinating. Remember that OJ series?’
Kourtney Kardashian replied: ‘Yeah. Where Ross played dad?’
Kim then shared her concerns about the program, admitting: ‘I’m very nervous because I’m just not an actress. I think it’s just fun to try something new.
‘I just want new energy, I said every year I was going to try to do something that was a challenge, workwise.’
When American Crime Story premiered on television in 2016, it got a slew of Emmy nominations, including best limited series and acting awards for Sterling, Sarah, and Courtney B Vance, who played Johnnie Cochran.
Selma Blair played matriarch Kris in a brief part, and Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob appeared as children in short moments.
Khloe previously commended people behind the scenes for accurately portraying her late father, but she also criticised some of the flaws.
‘I’ve seen bits and pieces of the miniseries, I know it’s phenomenal,’ she said during an appearance on the Late Late Show with James Corden at the time. ‘They’ve done a great job. I really appreciate the way they’ve portrayed my father. I’m very grateful for that.
‘I haven’t watched it fully, Kimberly has and she raves about it, and loves it.
‘But, not all the facts are accurate. Like when OJ was contemplating suicide, it was in my room, not Kim’s room. They’re sensationalizing the Kardashian name in it to bring a younger audience in. I’m not upset about it…
‘There was some scene of the kids chanting “Kardashian” when my dad was reading the potential suicide note. I even called Kim – because I was 10 – and said, “Did that happen? I don’t remember any of this happening.”
‘She goes, “Absolutely not, did that happen.”’
The Kardashians airs on Hulu in the US and is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
