Two Emmy Award nods have been given to a TV show that can’t be found anywhere.
The nominees for the coveted TV awards were announced on Wednesday. The show with the most nominations was Succession, which got 27. The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal, came in second.
The body also gave two votes to the musical play Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies because they thought it was a good show.
But even though the series, which is a prequel to the 1978 movie starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, could win twice for excellent dancing in a scripted show, it is no longer available on Paramount Plus or any other streaming service.
After joining with Showtime, Paramount decided to end Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies after the first season in order to “refine its content offering.” This was another bad news for fans of the show.
It’s been said that Paramount is shopping season one of the Grease reboot and the rights to it to other streaming services and TV networks, so let’s hope it gets bought soon and that the new owner makes a second season.
Rise of the Pink Ladies follows Jane (Marisa Davila), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso) and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara), who, fed up with how they are being treated at school, form a new clique.
But their friends, teachers, and parents, who all have different ideas about how the young women should act, make it hard for them to be taken seriously.
The stars of the show have said in the past that the remake will fix the problems with the classic movie, which has been talked about a lot since it came out.
In contrast to the movie, the main characters of the story now also reflect the variety of Southern California at the time. Black, Latinx, and Japanese-American kids, who were mostly left out of Grease, are now seen.
‘We are not rewriting history,’ Marisa said. ‘The show is all based in a colourful fantastic world of the 50s, but all of the themes [we tackle] were very much alive back then and some unfortunately still exist today.’
Before shooting, the four actors who play the title parts didn’t get to meet any of the original Pink Ladies, but one of them said they gave her advice and support.
‘I had a little video sent to me from Didi Conn [who played Frenchy] and she was so excited to hear we were taking on this project and said she said she was excited to watch it,’ Marisa shared.
The actor continued: ‘We have only heard good things from the people [which also included Stockard Channing as Rizzo, Jamie Donnelly as Jan and Dinah Manhoff as Marty] who came before us in terms of passing the baton and getting to share our side of the story with our own original characters.’
The 75th annual Emmy awards will take place on September 18, 2023.
