The Apprentice’s Victoria Goulbourne has confessed that she pondered “selling her business” after Lord Alan Sugar made a scathing remark about keeping it as a “hobby.”
Despite making it to the interview stage, the former flight attendant just lost out on a berth in the final to become the 76-year-old’s business partner and receive his £250,000 investment for the second year in a row.
When she returned to the boardroom for the final, which saw Marnie Swindells win, she seemed to strike back at Lord Sugar, saying, ‘Frankly, I’m not keen on your notion, I’m afraid.’
To the chagrin of viewers who called it “patronising” and “cold,” he added, “Keep it as a hobby.” No, it’s a fun pastime.’
When she returned, she put him in his place, saying, ‘I chose to get into modelling after you told me my final career should be a hobby, so…’
Victoria’s hair was featured in an advertisement for the salon during one of the jobs after she was chosen by Rochelle Raye Anthony, who sought the investment to grow her hair salon, catering to all various types of hair and delivering tutorials.
She has now spoken out over Lord Sugar’s comments, adding, ‘Alan advised me in the episode to keep my business as a hobby, which I don’t know if he meant…
‘But my business was not a hobby. It did give me a full-time wage for two years and I’m really grateful for that.
‘I’m so proud that you know, I was able to build something that did give me a full-time job essentially for the last two years.’
She added to The Express and other press: ‘Since leaving the process, I have had thoughts on selling my business.
‘I’ve just had a lot of opportunities that have come my way and I’m just really passionate about them.
‘And I just really want to pursue them – I just see it as like a new adventure, and I think that’s what I’m going to try and concentrate on.’
The Apprentice is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
